as far as the images in IE goes look in; tools > internet options > advanced and
see if 'show pictures' under the multimedia heading is checked... (check it if not)
as far as the AVGfree rescue disk goes i dunno... ive never made one... but the help
file for AVG might help... or the website may have some docs on it
