1. Have you tried "last known good configuration"?
2. If you cannot get in there, try "safe mode, command prompt; Run "chkdsk c: /f" 
from there.
3. If you cannot get in there, enter the Recovery Console = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654/en-us 
(use your Setup CD, if needed). Run "chkdsk c: /f" from there.
4. If none of the above work, and nobody else has a suggestion, I would go ahead 
and run a repair install. This is supposed to be non-destructive, but I would back-up 
anything in windows-created folders -- my documents, favorites, etc.
