The link below may help a little for port addressing in the BIOS in case that's where
your issue is. Windows may not load the serial driver if the ports have been disabled
in the BIOS. Outside chance that there is a hardware problem and Windows can't correctly
identify the hardware to choose a driver. How old is the computer? A BX chipset
goes back into the mid to late 90's. There may not be a compatible driver available.
Unlikely but possible on non popular machines that were not supported for XP..
