I should mention that I am helping this friend remotely now so it takes a little
longer getting the data.
I checked to see what buttons were greyed out. They were the add, remove, properties
and set password buttons on the "Users and Passwords" window.
Then I discovered that the "Users must enter a user name and passwords to use this
computer" box had to be checked to enable the aforementioned buttons.
We are making good progress and I have not yet deleted the "bogus" users. I am first
transferring appropriate files and folders to the new user. Then I will go back
and look more closely at the links you provided in order to delete the unwanted users.
So thanks for your response that got me started on the correct trail!
