hello special-K thanks for the good suggestion - I just tried safe mode but same problem. It's as if one part of ntfs can see the files and another part can not. I went into cmd mode to see if I can access the files - a dir cmd shows the files but a copy or a rename cmd says the system can not find the file specified - I was careful not to have typos I appreciate any help - I'm in deep trouble if I can't resolve this
