XP can be installed in the Fat32 or the NTFS it sounds like Fat32 ...that maybe why
you can get to the files..
But it's hard to say for sure..
You can download software that will let you in from a boot cd and you can get your
data off and then start over.
You may want to pop in the XP forum and ask around to get some feed back from the
XP users...
