It sounds as if you are accustomed to the welcome screen in XP.  Windows 2000 did 
not have that.  The password screen you mention should contain at least two fields. 
 One is the User Name field and the second is the password field.  The third field, 
if present, is called domain.  All fields should allow you to enter information into 
them.  In the user name field type administrator and then clear out the password 
field.   The third field, if present, should have an arrow pointing down.  If you 
click on the arrow, you should see at least 2 choices, on of which contains the words 
(This Computer).  You want to select that option.  If the third field is not present, 
you do not need to worry about it.  The other password that you can try is the word 
password.  This is no guarantee that it will work, just a couple options to try.
