As DEX said..  Any protection needs to be installed in both.  When either OS is running, 
you need to have protection running when you are online or downloading and any email 
is downloaded.  Problem here is finding one that will install in both.  AVG still 
supports Win 9X I believe.  Don't know about firewalls as I don't use them anymore. 
  I am behind a hardware firewall and have my systems locked down and careful about 
what I open or where I surf.
