Hi Paul:
Is your Win2K an "upgrade" from something else?
I have only ONCE seen the condition where the
selections made with the FOLDER OPTIONS panel
under TOOLS wouldn't make settings that would
"stick" for all folders, and that was on a WinXP
machine that had been upgraded from a battered
Win2K installation. I never could get it to
work right.
You might double-check that you've taken all these
steps in this order:
1. Go to MY COMPUTER, TOOLS, FOLDER OPTIONS,
and click on the VIEW tab.
2. Select RESET ALL FOLDERS, APPLY.
3. Select RESTORE DEFAULTS, APPLY, OK.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Go back to FOLDER OPTIONS.
5. On the GENERAL tab, select your favorite
settings, and click APPLY.
6. On the VIEW tab, click LIKE CURRENT FOLDER,
APPLY, OK.
7. Reboot the computer.
8. Go back to FOLDER OPTIONS.
9. On the VIEW tab, look through the list under
ADVANCED SETTINGS.
10. Check REMEMBER EACH FOLDER'S VIEW SETTINGS.
Click APPLY, OK.
These steps have always worked for me on all
machines, EXCEPT the upgraded one. There's one
other thing that these steps won't fix, and that's
the "global" SORT ORDER of windows displayed in
DETAILS view. If you're having trouble with that,
post again, and we'll walk through that fix.
