Rocky - can you clarify a bit more. Since you've set up the router, can either machine
(2k or Vista) connect to the internet through it? Was the 2k machine connected directly
to the internet previously? On the Vista machine, is the little network icon in the
tray next to the clock showing - and if so, does it have a red cross or yellow !

Having 2 machines networked to the router won't slow either machine down - but when
you do get the connection working, obviously they will both be sharing the internet
bandwidth. And if anything it will improve your internet security, as router provides
a hardware firewall and 'hides' your computers from the internet (they have private
internal IP addresses rather than external one when connected directly, which basically
takes them off the front line for attempted intrusion).
