So you've got your broadband connected to the router and both machines connected
to the router.
Is the 2k machine set to pick up an IP address automatically? (you can see by checking
the network properties of the LAN connection on the 2k machine - then look in the
IP properties. If it isn't auto, change it so it is). I'm presuming the router is
acting as DHCP server (default setting for most routers). Also presuming the ethernet
port on the 2k laptop is working - eg, no network icon with cross on that machine
saying its disconnected. Also in device manager, the network device is showing as
enabled and working properly.
