Hakan, Many thanks for the comments. I'm not sure what "can't contact the DC" is so I'm not clear what the root cause of the problem is. The MS article give a good method to restore access to the original ID but wish I knew what caused it in the first place. It seemed to be happening every 30 days or so for that user. I've since clean installed W2k with no reoccurance of the problem. Rusty
