The reason for the "Safely Remove" icon

The reason why SATA drives show up in the "Safely Remove" dialog is to permit "eSATA" (external SATA) drives to be safely removed from the system.

On my Athlon 4000 x2, all four SATA hard drives show up in "Safely Remove", including the boot "C:" drive! (Hmm, I wonder what'll happen if I "safely remove" C: !!!)

Older SATA-150 chipset drivers may lack this feature (such as on my Athlon 3000 PC), in which case you may have to shut down the system to truly "safely remove" an eSATA drive. :^þ

IBM ThinkPad PIII 933 - 512 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Pro SP2
