Like ange, I too tried the recommendations to no avail. (I suspect the uninstall
of an icon editor may also have also caused the problem at my end.) However, the
following worked for me. (I'm running under WinXP SP2.)
First I went into My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types and deleted the ICO
entry. I closed Explorer, then reopened, went back to File Types, and created a
"new" entry for ICO. I clicked the "Advanced" button and chose "icon" for the "Associated
File Type". Then saved the result. I exited and then reopened and, voila, there
were those lovely icons in all their glory :-)
