So router is obviously working - both as router and switch (if MACs can connect to
internet through it). Does the modem have an ethernet connector? (you said you plugged
it directly into Dell and it worked. If you're using same connector for direct connection
as for connection via router, it makes no sense that you're getting status not connected
via the router. DHCP settings wouldn't affect that - if wrong, you'd get a limited
connectivity, but not connected means windows doesn't think there's a cable plugged
in - or cable isn't connected to anything at other end. Presume you've tried different
cables? Suggest replacing network card in Dell - or adding one if its onboard - cards
are very inexpensive.
