I have not tried a new ethernet card in my box yet, but something curious did happen. I took on the task of reviving an IBM Thinkpad T40 with XP Pro, and after a week of figuring out how to restore the os and downloading drivers (a rant for another time), it displays the same issues- I can get on the internet only with a direct connection to the dsl modem, not through the router. To date, I have put 6 different Macs on the router, with three of them on at a time, and they have had no problem connecting/sharing the modem through the router.
