Blue screen when accessing .jpg files

I'm on a Compaq Evo N610c laptop, running Win2K. It gives me a blue screen crash
whenever it gets anywhere near a .jpg file. For example:
Using Windows Explorer to browse to a folder holding .jpg files;
Using MSIE or Mozilla to browse the hard drive, when I get to a folder containing
a .jpg file;
Trying to import a .jpg file into a MS Word document;
Using Kodak Imaging to open or browse to a .jpg file;
Virus scan returns no problems. Defragged, disk checked, still no joy.
Checked my file associations, there was nothing for a .jpg file, so I created an
association. Then went to find a .jpg file and crashed again.
The blue screen is very quick. Haven't been able to get the error code. But when
I get the blue screen, the computer never shuts down - I have to force it by holding
the power switch, then start all over again.
Any clues?
Thanks...
