Hey there, I got a similar problem. on a 2K SP4 server. It happened mid-December
2007 when a Media Play 9 patch was released and I have been having trouble since.
I thought it was the change over to WSUS from SMS patching but it is only happening
on one server.
Then I thought it was media Player 9 so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Then further
investigation showed that the Media Player 9 patch was actually already installed
but for some reason Windows Update detected that the server still needed the patch.
(This was before I reinstalled Media Player 9).
I have since then followed the MSKB suggestions of repair Win Update and remove the
Software Distribution folder etc. but still no luck.
The patch starts to install but hangs at the "Checking for neccessary disk space".
I am now just about to try the DCOM fix on JSI Tip 9222.
