If you have a lot of graphics, music, and text files, you need a second storage device, or your hard drive needs to have already been partitioned to contain more than one logical drive. CDR or DVDR drives are fine for the use. Drivers, particularly, need to be saved.

Program files are wiped out by the recommended method of starting from a reformat, and must be reinstalled as well as the OS (I haven't re-reviewed the entire thread -- the software used here is terribly crude, and all I've looked at this time is your new reply).
