Dwight,
I'm surprised no one has mentioned using TweakUI to solve your problem. If you aren't
familiar with it, it's a Microsoft unsupported program which allows you to make various
"tweaks" to the OS, INCLUDING doing away with the need to sit there and type or click
something at logon. I have used it on several Win2000 machines to avoid just the
situation you describe. Once you install TweakUI it gets added to the Control Panel.
So you go to Start/Settings/ControlPanel/TweakUI. Look for the tab "Logon".

Type in your user name and password, click ok, and you should be all set. TweakUI
is readily available around the net. I think Annoyances has it somewhere. Just make
sure you get the version that works with Win2000.
Hope this helps,
Carl S.
