Annoyances, We have a problem.

While playing around with Google`s latest novelty. The 
one where you can view any home, property and move
around the blocks on any street, I suddenly lost my
desktop.
I spent hours trying to restore it, even trying system
restore. System cannot restore backwards to the day
that I request. I have tried several times.
Then I notice a small slice of monitor slightly opened
on the right side. I used the arrow to slide it open and
there it was. My start button is on the top right corner
and the clock at the end.
I have tried pointing the arrow at a space  clicking to
show the prompt while I click active desktop and get
options. I click some to no avail.
I can get my desktop icons to display by no picture or
visce versa. I can start and close and menu displays
but on a narrow strip on the right side of monitor.
We have a problem. Please help....again....Thanks
