re: Question about 'Windows Installer Appears Every Time I Start an Application' Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 4:00 pm Windows 2000 Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Gill (30 messages posted) I followed the instructions here, and in appdeploy.com and solved the "Preparing to install" pop-up but some new problem came up, here's what I did, ------------ 1) msiexec /unregister 2) Renamed the files manually, Msi.dll, Msiexec.exe, and Msihnd.dll Most of them are in system32 if I remember right, 3) then I restarted Windows and installed Windows Installer 3.1 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86). Now the pop-up is gone but I'm facing new problems, When clicking on the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, this error message showed up, http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/7493/installercleanupmessagema4.jpg Also, Acrotray failed on startup because msi.dll was not found.
