As has been stated, a "clean" install is your best option. If there are any troubles or issues with your ME install (and I would be surprised if there weren't....very few people were able to get ME to perform in an even remotely 'stable' fashion) they would be carried over with an upgrade. Backup all important data, wipe the drive and install 2000 from scratch. You'll be happy you did!

If you're a gamer, I can tell you for certain that 2000 is not a good gaming platform. I ran it for quite a while when it first came out but had trouble with many different games. That's why I switched to XP when it was released. It (XP) works fine with every game I've installed. If however, gaming is not an issue with you, then I'm positive you will find it a stable, reliable environment to work in.
