The easy way to regain control is to use your backup of the reg. file you do have
one right.... ! ?
Many spyware programs will change setting on your machine,,,,that said when you remove
them they don't have a chance to put things back like it was..and most don't care....
You know the rule when you run windows
backup,backup,backup
win2k gave you a backup program as a default item .

To get your control back you will need to reboot with the win2k cd and run the repair
items listed.
