Hi All,

I have a W2k server I'd like to get running again. I believe I have a good plan, but it's not one I've tried before nor have I heard from anyone who tried something similar. I've posted a description of how I believe the problem developed and how I plan to make the repair at the following URL:

http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/65390.html

I'd sure like your input. Here's an outline of the plan.

1) I've installed w2k server with service pack 4 on my C: drive

2) I plan to restore from backup a "broken" copy of my original w2k server over my current w2k system without replacing any of the existing files.

3) I plan to restore the rest of the C: drive, except for the %system%\winnt directory, and replace all existing files.

Somehow get my registry back in place.I have the following files on backup:

Directory of H:\NTRestore\WINNT\repair

03/31/2008 09:50a .
03/31/2008 09:50a ..

03/12/2008 06:06p 3,272,704 system

Directory of H:\NTRestore\WINNT\repair\RegBack

03/12/2008 11:49a 7,520,256 system
03/12/2008 07:06p 167,936 UsrClass.dat

The two ways I can think of to accomplish restoring the original state of the registry files are

1) use the recovery console and copy files from the above repair directory to the config directory

and

2) boot using the "Last Known Good Configuration" option.

Of the two options I believe, the boot "last know" seems the best thing to do. But if I were to use the recovery console, which files should I copy over from the "\repair", "\repair\RegBack" folders? The advice I'd appreciate is what's my best corse of action?

TIA

T. Fuller
