Okay, the computer's working somewhat now. Here's what I did:
First I ran chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console (turned out not to be directly related,
but it didn't hurt). When I rebooted the blue screen error stuck around longer, and
I could tell that it was a problem with the file "systemroot\system32\config\SOFTWARE",
which apparently is the registry. After searching around the internet, I found a
quick fix that involved copying a virgin WINNT\repair\SOFTWARE into the system32\config
folder. Good news is that the computer boots up without a hitch. Bad news is that
none of my startup services seem to be working. I guess I should go ahead and re-install
all my software. Thanks for the help.
