Here is a conservative method to resolve your issue.
Get a spare hard drive, perhaps from an older PC that you do not need. Use an image
copy program to copy one drive to another. The spare drive can go on the same cable
as the CD-rdrive, if it is a IDE drive. After making a good clone, unplug the current
Hard Drive and replace with the spare. Try to do a repair using the 2000 professional
repair disk. If it works fine, you have the answer. If not, you still have the original
Drive as it was.
Yeah, it takes longer, but it eliminates the doubt and fear and high blood pressure.
