Trying to install HP Printer software for WinXP

So alright, I'm probably trying to do something stupid, but I'm hoping that someone
has a simple solution to this.

Some Background, I've been using Win2K since just about it's inception. I like it's
stability and it does just about everything I need. I just purchased a new HP Photosmart
B8550 printer, and the drivers won't install under Win2K.

Win2K and WinXP are for most purposes identical and I'm pretty sure that I can hunt
down and fix any incompatibility problems that result from those differences, but
the installation software won't get beyond the OS identification stage.

Does anyone know of a simple way to fool the HP installation package into seeing
Win2K (Windows Version 5.0.x) as WinXP (Windows Version 5.1.x).

I could hack around but I'm hoping someone who's already done that is willing to
share.
