Hi: I switched from Earthlink Dial-Up to DSL in January of 2000. My computer then
had W95,
later upgraded to W98SE. In July of 2001 I got a new computer (clone) with W2000
installed
(the W98 upgrade was not very stable). I had no problems installing PPOET on the
new computer
and continuing with the DSL. Later I upgraded to Earthlink Home Networking and now
have my
computer and that of my wife (W98SE clone) networked and both using the DSL connection.
Again, I had very few problems setting up the system (I called Earthlink twice, but
one problem
was my fault - a typo). The Networking uses a router (2Wire) and the "dialing" is
performed by the
router.
BTW: There has been an upgrade (#2) for W2000, which I installed. I have no idea
whether that
is related to your problem.
Regards
Erich (a retired engineer).
