further information:
the cpu stays at full load for 6½ to 7 minutes, then drops back down. it will finally establish a connection, which appears to be dead when you try and use it.

i talked to the person who used the machine after i did... she decided she didnt like win2k and tried shutting down without closing the net connection. said it took about 10 minutes so she just hit the reset button. argh. i knew i should have created another profile instead of always using admin.

stupid question: how does one uninstall and reinstall dun in win2k? its a bit different than 9x.
