Question about 'Things that slow down system bootup'

I have a question about Things that slow down system bootup:

How do you delete fonts and how do I tell which ones may be needed by certain programs? Also, the article mentioned disabling network drives. How do I do that and what effect if any might that have on my normal activities such as Web surfing? Presently my computer is not part of a network.
