Question about 'Force Office 2000 to Open All Documents in the Same Window'

I have a question about Force Office 2000 to Open All Documents in the Same Window:

The other way around: I use SDI: each document has its own full window. When I close an instance of Word with the close button (x), only the document I'm working on closes. The other Word documents stay open. But when I use the same technique with Excel all of my documents will be closed instead.

How can I force the same behavior for all my office applications.
