Question about 'How do I change the font used in Explorer?'

I have a question about How do I change the font used in Explorer?:

Somehow, in the process of cleaning out a couple of hundred fonts from my W2000 OS, I managed to change the font that is used for Caption Buttons. This article tells me how to go and repair the situation, but I have two problems: one, the option of changing the font is not active when I select Caption Buttons, and two, I don't know what font used to be there. Anyone with any idea how to repair this? The font that the OS gave me to substitute for the original one gives characters that are terrible and confusing. Thanks for the help.

It's been a long time, but I think I discovered that I had removed either Tahoma or Marlett from my font directory, and that's what caused the problem. Microsoft was not much help, but I found someone who was an Outlook hacker who knew what to do. Good luck. Chauncey Bell

Thanks for your reply.... I stumbled upon the solution by closely examining one of my other PC running the same op system W2K.... I know Marlett is esstential to Win 98 but wasnt sure about W2K. I had installed it but it clobbered all the system fonts which are used in messages like " Installing network preferences" and a zillion other places turning them into something like Chinese. Uninstalling Marlett made the "Caption Buttons" the three like icons in the upper right corner of every window totally illegible. I finally noticed that Marlett.ttf has to set as a HIDDEN file in the attribbutes part of Properties, then it works without appearing all over the place. Yr right Microsoft is no help at all on this subject Thanks again for replying Tim
