Right click on My Network Places and click on Properties, right click on the DUN or network item you want to get rid of the flashing icon for, click on Properties and uncheck the "Show icon in taskbar when connected" tick box. I quite like them myself!

I use AOL and when I right click on the "America Online" icon in network & dial up connections, and choose properties it does nothing. I also see Local Area Connection & Local Area Connection 2 (do I even need these?) Neither of those has a check mark in the box for showing on the taskbar. Any other suggestions?

On a related matter to the System Tray flashing modem icon ... I am trying to find
a registry hack that will eliminate the big yellow Info Balloon that pops up immediately
after a dial-up is established.

I've discovered that this Info Balloon CAN be eliminated, but only by unchecking
the "Show icon in taskbar when connected" tick box. I don't mind the flashing modem
icon during an active connection. It actually performs a useful function; reminding
you you're online, and providing an easy way to disconnect. But that yellow Info
Balloon is flat out annoying eye candy. If there's no way to eliminate it, at least
can the time delay for it's momentary display be reduced to zero? I've searched
the internet tip sites high and low and found no solution ... yet.

One tip site offered a reg hack for "disabling Windows XP balloon tips", but it doesn't
work in Win2000, and a friend with XP says this hack doesn't actually eliminate this
particular Info Balloon in XP either! (FYI, the XP hack involves adding a new value
to "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" key named "EnableBalloonTips"
and setting it to "NO") I'm guessing that registry references to this particular
info balloon are buried somewhere within the MS Dial Up parameters, but I haven't
had any luck in finding them.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Best regards,
Dan

Dan, I have the same problem. I got rid of the yellow balloon message, but what bothers me is the fact that the task bar stays up for the few seconds the balloon used to be (I use the taskbar autohide). Have you found the solution to that problem? Felipe

Felipe, I have still not found a registry hack that will get rid of that annoying little balloon. Also, I have never cared for the auto-hide taskbar feature. I never enable it. I'll certainly post the solution when/if I ever find it. Thanks! Best regards, Dan ==================================
