Question about 'Things that slow down system bootup'

I have a question about Things
that slow down system bootup: How do you delete fonts and how do I tell which
ones may be needed by certain programs? Also, the article mentioned disabling network
drives. How do I do that and what effect if any might that have on my normal activities
such as Web surfing? Presently my computer is not part of a network.

Eddy if your not on a network?? You won't have any drives networked anyway. Networking
drives basically means being able to see the drives on other machines from your workstation.

Thank you, Robert, for your response.
I am not on a network at all. How do I "un-network" drives on my computer? (That
is what you meant to suggest, isn't it?)

Another biggie for win2k... go into services manager (through control panel) and
disable any unneccesary services. There are a number of sites listing what is and
is not necessary (but I am at work and dont have time to find them ; )

One such site is http://blackviper.com/.
He has OS guides for W2K, Red Hat Linux 8, WXP Pro and home, and Windows .NET Enterprise
Server. Also, he has a listing of all the services for WXP and 2K, an explanation
of what each one does, whether or not it's safe to turn off etc... This site is very
useful for tweking the last ounce of performance out of your PC.
http://blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm
for W2K and though i despise it,
http://blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
for WXP

About removing fonts. All you need to do is to go in explorer and select your font
folder (windows\fonts).
You'll probably see a warning message, say Proceede. Set explorer to display system
and hiden files and folders if you can't find it.
From there, select and drag some fonts to another location. This will remove/uninstall
the font. I actualy LOST some fonts that way, I only wanted to copy them to a flopy
and the flopy was bad.
If after that you find that some font default to arial, then it's that one of the
font you removed was used by an inactive programm, Take it back in the font folder.
