I need to re-install or restore Windows sockets. Each time I boot up the system,
I get "Windows Sockets Initialization Failed". I cannot log onto the WEB. It all
started when I uninstalled bonzi buddy using add/remove programs. I am using 2000
Professional OS.

I did the same thing. I uninstalled bonzi buddy with add/remove programs, and lost
my sockets. I reapplied Service Pack 2 (You have to d/l the full network version
- 101 MB) and got them back!
Hope this helps..

I was going nuts trying to fix this problem. Happened to me after uninstalling some
P2P clients and accompanying spyware after unable to locate files on their networks.
I loaned my win2k CD out to a friend, so a repair was out of the question. Thanks
for the fix!

Hi, My husband has the same problem. He can't get to the web and gets the initialization
problem also. Where do you find the service pack 2 to fix the problem? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Mr. Rumschlag, please help me. I did what you told me to do, installed SP2, the full
network one, but my computer's sockets still wont initialize. Do you have any ideas
on how I can fix it?

I tried uninstalling TCP/IP. When I uninstalled it, I was unable to reinstall it.
An error message popped up, talking about an unfixable error or something like that.
Can anyone help me??????

I just had optimum online installed and am using Windows 2000. After having Optimum
online for a day our neighbor came over and uninstalled some programs since we only
had liek 8% memory left. After this we started to get the Windows initialization
failed message constantly. Windows told us to buy windows XP Professional for $300.
Is this what i need to do?

I am probably being thick; but not only do I get the error message, but it has affected
my internet connectivity ie I have none. I am typing this from a work computer.
The question is; can I download the fix from a different computer and then transfer
it to my home one?

You're not being thick - I had to troubleshoot this same problem with my computer
with my husband while he was in Iraq. What he ended up doing was having a buddy download
the file and put it onto a flash drive, then running it on his machine since he was
unable to access the Internet. The file is an executable, so it can be burned onto
a disc or put onto a flash drive as two suggested methods of transporting it from
one working computer to a non-working one.
By the way, it worked like a charm. Thank goodness for small favors, I thought for
awhile he was going to have to mail the laptop home for me to repair it!

I need to re-install or restore windows sockets. Each time I boot up the system,
I get the message "windows sockets initialization failed". I cannot log on to the
internet. It all started when I was uninstalling games, evidently I uninstall something
by mistake using the add/remove programs. I am using windows XP on an HP Compaq Presario
