All I know is if you change the properties of the windows explorer "Target" window
to C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\ explorer will open in the root directory
of the C drive, instead of that annoying My Documents thing. Replace C:\ with the
path to the directory you want explorer to open in. Works for me.

Under Windows 2000 Server, I used:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe c:\ ,/e
It wanted the directory as the first argument, and when I tried to put the /e (to
show as the explorer, not as an "Open" window) after, it complained. The comma (and
space) fixes this.
I'm not sure what the /n does, so I left it out.
My "Start In" is still set to %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%, so it must ignore it.

How do you make it open (auto expand) two drives at once ( re: Drive C and Drive
D for example) in the target command?

Aah...thanks. That was irritating me for a long time, the stupid folder behavior.
Your suggestion works...I did a microsoft.com search, of course nothing came up.
Google was rather short of news, as well, until search result #25 or so showed this
page.

In WindowSUXp you can also specify the file "explorer.scf" in the target-field. Starts
in C root.

This works well for Windows Explorer but what about other applications. I have Windows
2000 Professional and all applications open "My Documents" on the D: drive by default.
I would like to change this to the C: drive. Example - using WORD, click File,
Save As - and it wants to save the document on the D: drive.
Thanks.

I was able to specify my default file save location, &
consequently the default file that opens when the
application opens, like this:
1. Open the application (in this case Word)
2. Click 'Tools'
3. Click the tab that says 'File Locations'
4. There are choices here. Click 'documents' so it is highlighted
5. Click 'Modify'
6. Now explore using the 'look in' box at the top until
you find the file you want as the default location. Click 'OK'
7. The next time you start this application, when you
choose 'Open' this will be the default file that opens.
Other applications have similar steps that are fairly easy.
I have changed all of my applications to save my work
to our network by default rather than 'my documents'
on my C drive.
