Question about 'Getting Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to work with PPPoE'

The article says If you're using Efficient Networks' Enternet 300 software: Open the Enternet 300 software, and select Settings from the Connections menu. Click Advanced, and choose the Use DHCP option (the default, "Private API," is incompatible with ICS). When I do this, restart the machine, start the DSL connection and open a browser I get a message that ... "no internet connection available" . When I check the ipconfig settings for each of the three adapters are set to 00000. If I check ipconfig immediately after reboot but before starting the DSL connection, 2 of the 3 adapters have been given addresses by the DHCP server and the 3rd adapter shows as cable disconnected because the DSL service hasn't started. Since the networking specialists at my ISP (SBC) don't work on the weekends, can anyone suggest a fix?

hi charles, I was having a similar problem to you when i first tries to install the dsl connection. I left the tcp/ip connection to get the ip address automatically. What i changed was the DNS entries. I found that plugging in the dns entries provided by your isp got the connection to work. Hope this helps.

I used to have SBC's DSL service but now I'm currently using Roadrunner Cable Internet access. In both situations I've managed to share my Internet connection by installing Windows 2000 Pro on both computers, and also installing a PPPoE protocol from the internet. I don't know if installing that protocol was necessary but it's one of the steps I tried when attempting to share the net when I had DSL. You can call that new 1411 Directory Assisstance company at (800) GET-1411 and they can tell you where to download the PPPoE Protocol and how to configure your 2 computers with ipconfig. R. Nelson

Did you ever get a fix for that? I have SBC Yahoo DSL and it works fine on my XP computer. BUT....... when i try to share the connection on a 98 SE computer, it will not go to secure web sites for some reason. The XP computer and the 98 SE are connected by a hub. The computers can see each other, but the 98 SE will not go to secured sites. Any ideas? DAVE

Guys:
>I've noticed that if I change the Network Access Driver to Protocol Driver instead of Filter Driver in the Enternet 300's Application Settings under Advanced I can get connected on my client machines just fine. It also seems to correct problems getting IP addresses assigned properly with DHCP. After changing the NAD setting and restarting the connection, our SBC Yahoo DSL has been working great ever since. Also, Dave have you tried Annoyances' MTU fix? That worked out quite well for me on just about any web site (secured or not) that wouldn't load.... John

I am having the same problems making a connection with SBC dsl and have tried all suggestions nothing works. When I open the enternet box it gives me an IP address but when I go into MSDOS ipconfig I get all zeroes. I have spent an hour with SBC, they referred me to microsoft or compaq who will only talk to me for a fee! Any ideas?
