Windows 2000 Shuts down

Hi, One of our clients has a problem when logged into Windows 2000, all of a sudden for no reason Windows will shut itself down. We've re-installed Windows 2000 but we still seem to get this problem. Has anyone else encounted this, and is it a software or hardware problem? I'd be extremely grateful for your help. Thanks

Does it "shutdown" or "restart"? Just curious, you could have the wake-on lan enabled,
and that helps with shutdowns as well. Bios upgrade could resolve it as well.

Brian, You may want to try having the system board replaced.

I am thinking maybe you have a hardware problem that is causing errors... remember that by default windows 2000 is set to simply reboot if it encounters a bluescreen type situation. you can shut that option off if you like and sit and look at your bluescreen lol =) You can get to this option by right clicking on my computer and going to properties then click the advanced tab, then startup and recovery... take a look. -Sean

Hello Brian, Did you solve this problem yet? It is exactly what my PC is doing. Thanks, Johnny

Brian, I too am having the same problem, For no reason windows 2000 pro, will just shut down and restart. I have seen a fix in one of the SP from Microsoft, but my machine will not stay running long enough to download the fix. There has to be a simble solution to this problem, because too many people are expericing the same thing. I can't beleive its hardware problems on all these machines. Let me know when you find that solution to this matter. Thanks, Barry

I have the same problem. It is a Sony laptop that came with Millenium. Win Mil. was causing me errors in Authorware. Neither Microsoft or Macromedia could help, so I bought Win 2000 Pro. I had to make some compromises on drivers for built-in devices, because Sony won't support an OS you install. Finally, to the issue: I get vertical lines and the computer restarts as if someone pressed reset. I think I upgraded my Intel display adapter driver, and changed it to give signal out to a TV. I will try looking at that first but if someone runs across this, help is appreciated.
