Question about 'What to do about error messages during Windows startup'

I have a question about What to do about error messages during Windows startup:

a couple of days ago i tried to print a document from Excel and the print manager said it was printing 1 of 70 pages. I waited till the 1st page was printed and then closed the print manager. Now, everytime i start up windows, it says that spoolsv.exe has generated errors and has to be closed. When i locate the file and try to restart it, it does nothing. I try to print something else and it says there are no printers installed. I go to install it again and it says that system resources are too low!! I am stuck in a loop and dont know what to do about it. Can anyone help me please?!

Re-name spoolsv.exe to spoolsv.old and put a new one in. If you can extract one from a .cab file or off a CD, preferably your own so that the version is the same. Ian chattan@worldonline.be

Just found a solution at http://is-it-true.org/nt/nt2000/atips/atips119.shtml Basically what it says is to delete all files in c:\winnt\system32\spool\printers That should do the trick. Cheers Allan Madsen

I tried every "fix" to this problem I could find (I was one who had to uninstall BitWare, edit BitWare from the registry and everything). I tried clearing out the Windows/System32/spool/printer directory, replacing spoolsv.exe, and all that. No help. What finally worked was the answer I found at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20327599.html which says, in part, "SIMPLY DELETE THE FOLLOWING REGISTRY KEY!: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2]" This is what worked for me.

Allan, Thank you for your suggestion, it worked for me, I deleted the files you said and overwrote the spoolsv.exe with a "good" version , from the computer I use at work I did not use the Cab file, and no problems. I was seeing the same thing as stated the error message would appear at boot up and also when I would try to add a printer, I did not make any changes to the registry. Regards, Craig

I tried the registry edit and that didn't work, but when I deleted and replaced spoolsv.exe it worked. I also deleted all entries from the print "Server Properties"

I tried both of those solutions, with no luck...When I try to add a printer it gives me this error. "Out of resources" " Printer operation cannot continue due to lack of resources. The print subsystem is unavailable." Any suggestions?
