Question about 'Sort by Extension in Explorer'

One solution is to right click on the column headings in the Explorer Window, add the "type" field to visible file attributes. Then click on the "type" heading to sort by file type, or extension.

This solution will not give the desired results. You have treated "file type" an being the same as "file extension," but that's not true. For example, a file extension of "txt" might have a file type of "text file." You can see that "text" will sort to a different place than "txt," since the second letters of those words are different. The point of the article is that Explorer sort by extension, and the article is correct.
