How to shut down again on XP?

I have a question about Getting
Wake On Lan (sometimes called Remote Wake Up) to work:

I got wake on lan working on my home network. In fact, I wrote a webpage using .Net so I can just click an link and my home computers will turn on. Then after they boot I connect to them using Terminal Services.

My problem is, how so I shut the machine down again? I am running XP, and the shut down option doesn't appear when connecting remotely.

Also if anyone wants the source to the web page let me know, happy to share.

Shawn

Go to tucows and download a simple utility called poweroff. It does a lot more handy things than just turn the computer off.

Use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to your XP machine, press CTRL-ALT-END, task manager will open and then you can choose Shutdown from the main menu.

That CTRL-ALT-END didn't work for me. I found a command line command you can use. At a command prompt, I hope you know to get there by typing cmd.exe in the run box, type the command "shutdown -s" and hit enter. It will give you a 30 second warning and the machine will shut down. Worked for me. Later, Chris

Start>run> type "shutdown -r -t 00", shutdown is built into windows, -r reboots, -t is for time in seconds until shutdown in this case 00 makes it run right away, -f forces running applications to close.

as you are already using a webinterface to starup your computer, i suggest that you
also use a webinterface for shutting it down. A very hany and resource saving freeware
utility that has a builtin webinterface is called Switch Off! Here is the link:
Switch Off!

Right click the Taskbar, select 'Task Manager,' there is a menu called 'Shutdown.'

Thank you for this tip! I have been using the shutdown.exe utility because on a Remote Connection (incl Console level) XP SP2 does not offer Shut Down on the Task Manager. I never knew about Ctrl+Alt+End!
