Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the ''Please Wait'' screen'

I have a question about When
I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the "Please Wait"
screen:
I have windows 2000 installed, and whenever I try to shut down my computer, everything
seems to shut down fine at first, and it even makes a slight "poofing" sound at the
end (that always comes when turning my pc off), but my computer is actually still
running. I have a black screen, but the lights on my pc are still on and I can hear
the typical "pc is running" sound. (The ventilators I guess). Even hitting the on/off
switch manually doesn't work to turn it off.
The only way I can correctly shut down my pc with this problem, is by always hitting
"restart" instead of "shut down" and then turning my pc off manually during early
bootup. This is really annoying.
Windows ME always shut down by itself correctly.

I just wanted to say that I have the same problem. However, I blame myself for it,
not the computer. It shut down normally until I uninstalled a service pack for Windows
2000. I uninstalled this because it was taking up a large amount of space- silly
me! Now I have to hold down the power button to get the computer to shut down.

What I would do is install Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. It is a hefty download (100MB)
but it might work since it updates a lot of files in Windows 2000. I know that Win98
had a fix for that same problem. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem as the original author of this set of messages. I even installed
SP3, hoping that would solve the problem. I suspect this problem started for me
after I uninstalled Easy CD Creater 4.02. I would appreciate anyone who has an idea
for fixing this Windows 2000 shutdown problem. Thanks.

I seem to have fixed this problem by doing the following:
Right-click on My Computer, select Properties
Click on Network Identification
Click on Network ID
Then, follow the wizard to adjust your log-on settings.
Hope it works for others!
