Registry value is always overwritten

I have a question about Speed
up the Start Menu:
I'm trying to set the HKCU\Contral Panel\desktop\StartMenuDelay key to a value >400,
in windows 2000. But, everytime I log off and log back in, the value gets reset
to 400.
Does anyone know what would be resetting the value? I've disable all startup programs
and this still happens!
Paul

I don't know what would be causing it to reset, but if you download TweakUI for Win2k
and set the menu delay from there it works like a charm and holds the value...I had
the same problem.

Actually I was using TweakUI to set the value. It works great, until I log off.
I constantly have to reset the value everytime I log in because something is setting
it back to the default value!

The correct key is:
HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay

let me guess... you have the microsoft mouse driver version 4.x installed? ... i
do and my startmenu delays are reset back to 400 without anything actually being
changed in the registry ... it's almost like something in that driver is modifying
the value in memory but not in the registry... i've seen many references to this
problem/bug on the net but have yet to find a cure myself :(

The culprit on my box was the QuickTime task sheduler which was loading at boot up.
There's no reason I can think of why that's needed, but QuickTime just installs
itself that way.
I used Start>Run>Msconfig>Startup and unchecked the Quick Time task box
