Question about 'Can't access some websites while using a shared PPPoE connection'

I have a question about Can't access some websites while using a shared PPPoE connection:

Having read the article and the posts, and tried the suggestions, I'm still having problems.

Firstly ping times out. I solved this by pinging www.dslreports.com which worked for a while but not now.

Secondly, having established a MTU of 1426 was required, I used DSL Dr to set it to this value. On rebooting, the maximum I could ping was 1398. Matt http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/n1026910979 had a similar problem in Win XP so I tried the suggestions there. Still no joy.

Any help would be very gratefully received. You can probably tell I'm a newbie so bear with me....

Don't use any utility to change the MTU. Windows, for an unknown reason, offen duplicates its registry entries (i've already seen more than 30 MTU entries). Manually editing the registry is the only way to proceed safely.
