Can SEE the other Computer, but can't connect.

I have a question about Both computers see each other, only one connects:

I have a wireless connection through a Siemens router. Computer A and Computer B (on wireless) see each other on the network. (no domain, using 'WORKGROUP' - basic set up, etc). Everything is shared, and set up the same way. Computer A can read Computer B's shared drives. Computer B sees Computer A, but when I try to connect it fails. Other times, Computer B can't even open 'WORKGROUP' and see any computers, including itself. All the while, I pull through the internet just fine, so I know the wireless connection is not the problem (report good signal strength too). Help please!

both machines 2k? Definitely shared at least one resource (drive, folder, printer) on Computer A? Can you ping A from B? What does ipconfig show on B? (presume the router is supplying IP addresses to both).

I am also having this problem. I have a d-top and laptop connected through wireless. Both can access internet, and laptop can access d-top. d-top can "see" other computer, but can't access. Have tried just about everything. Sharing is on, firewall at each comp. is off, but still get message that access is denied. Everything "pings" o.k. Any help is appreciated.

We also have this problem. Access is denied when we try to connect from any other computer - BUT I can get on the others just fine. Have tried disabling firewall and it does no good. The computer that no one can access (mine) is XP. The other two are ME and 2K. On TOP of all this - we just bought the new VAIO and have run the network set up wizard and CANNOT get it on the network with the rest. It CAN access the internet, though! aaargh!

Did you connect them directly, without a switch or hub? If so, you need to use a special network cable called a "crossover cable." You can buy it at most stores that sell computer parts... it looks the same, but it is wired differently.

I've got a similar problem, but i have a wireless AP that works with two other computers, and used to work with mine. But since i installed my new video card, i can see the network and get a good signal but it wont connect to it.

I'm having a similar problem. I have two win 2000 pcs connected with a crossover & configured correctly (as far as I can tell anyhow). The primary machine can ping the other & can access the other's shares. The other machine can ping the primary, but cannot access the primary's shares. It confirms username/password, but gives an error instead of access: //192.168.0.1 is not accessible. The network name cannot be found

I am trying to resolve same issue now. Did you ever fix this on 2 win2K c's with crossover cable? Mine works sometimes when I force a 'Master Browser' election by restarting both c's.
