Just an FYI: I used to see this alot with Compaq systems running Windows NT4. Everytime we would apply a Windows NT service pack, the Compaq power management would get hosed and change the value of a registry key. In our case after applying the Winnt Service pack, we had to download and reapply the Compaq Power Management Softpaq for the system in question...When I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer restarts instead of shutting down:
