I just got over the update problem when I start windows. Nothing apears but that window. First I tell you what to do to get your desktop back. But please do not stop there. There might be many more problems ahead for you. First you will close all open windows that come up when you start. Then you will press ctrl alt and del at the same time. Now click on task manager. When task manager comes up you will have to click on the tab "applications" then in the lower right hand corner you will need to click on "new task". In the box that comes up type "control" then click ok and your desktop will apear and you might get an error message. Now that you can do that I recomend watching what you save to cds or disks because you may have a virus. I was finding viruses that were called klez.h and url.com some of them avg virus scanner could not delete so I had to manualy go in and delete them. I think I may of had a trrjan horse because avg never found the "mother" of the viruses. I formated and popped in the cd that I saved only a few files to and I got the whole update thing again. So hopefully you backed everything up a long time ago. If I were you i would back up now, format, install everything back on your computer. If you get all this update window and un able to open dialog again then you will have to abandon all your software that you have on your computer unless you bought it or a friend has it. Sorry man, i hate bad news. I was pissed when it happened to me and as I am typing this it has only been about 6 or 7 hours since I formated. Ironic huh. This is the longest that I have made it without having anyproblems and I have formated about 4 times trying to find files that are not infected. Fell free to email me at nirus137@netscape.net or get on aol instant messenger. My screen name is NiRuS V. I would realy like to hear back from you. I want to know what the outcome is and if I can help more. Good luck -----NiRuS nirus137@netscape.net

I had a similar problem recently and found that I had a trojan virus. What you need to do is the following. Hit Ctrl - Alt - Del to bring up the task manager. Start a new task, click browse and navigate to your System32 directory. In that directory there may be a file named "explorer.exe". If there is, delete it and reboot. This should solve your problem. The true explorer.exe file resides in the Winnt directory and you don't want to delete that file. So, make sure you're in the System32 directory before deleting the file.

I deleted Winnt\system32\Cuirsor to get rdi of a Norton Antivirus detected IRC Trojan virus. In deleting the entire folder, I no longer receive the IRC Trojan messages, but I still get the "System error: Unable to open dialog" messages that started at the same time. Is someone trying to get into my PC? And could someone please offer help for the Unable to open dialog messages. Exactly what is the message telling me?

I found two viruses compliments not of Norton or McAfee but, Trend Micro's free online scan found here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Those 2 viruses contributed to the 2 system error unable to open dialog boxes that we seem to have problems with.

I also have the same problem as you have. But I don't have any of those files that you just talked about in my winnt. I have a message every 30 seconds telling me a system error, unable to open dialog. I have formated a week ago, I have only a couples of prgrams installed, nothing really pathetic! How can I get rid of this?? Cheers!

system error ''unable to open dialog''

Problem--system error "unable to open dialog" popping up every 30 seconds. I booted into safe-mode went to add/remove programs and removed "Mirc". After I rebooted I cleaned anything "mirc" from my regestry and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks a lot, my dear uncle Pepe has been suffering this madness during a week. Now, I have found this message and it seems to work. Tons of Thanks. Muchas gracias, mi queridísimo tio Pepe ha estado sufriendo esta locura durante una semana. Acabo de encontrar este mensaje, y parece que funciona. Mil gracias.
