Question about 'Things that slow down system bootup'

I have a question about Things that slow down system bootup:

What is the OS load option /fastdetect??? I find many references to it, but nothing explaining what it does. Microsoft even has a TechNet article on bootcfg that claims a Knowledge Base article (Q170756) contains a list of available load options. It does contain a partial list, but nothing about /fastdetect. I also found a nice article on "Parameters for the boot.ini file". Again a list of some of the available OS load options but absolutely nothing about /fastdetect. What is this thing? Thanks!

http:// msdn.microsoft.com / library / en-us / ddtools / hh / ddtools / bootini_08ab.asp Summary: MSDN Home Driver Development Tools: Windows DDK /fastdetect Disables NTDETECT serial and parallel port device detection at the specified communications ports. If you do not specify a communications port, this parameter disables detection on all serial and parallel ports.
