More Win.2k shut down

In the recent past I posted a question regarding a shut down problem with 2k, and I got back severa replies to the problem and so far none of them have fixed the problem. Here is something that I have discovered. I have found that when I hit the shut down button the internet explorer icon will flash. So I check the task manager and sure enough there are several instancances of IE all loaded up in the Task Manager, and untill I shut down each of them the machine will not shut down. There can be as many as 7 or 8 ie's all running at the same time. Now I have three other machines running win 2k and all of them have had the os installed over 98 and ME but the other PCs do not have this problem. It seems to be only hitting my compaq. Ok all you high tech Wizards any thoughts on this one? Thanxs Jeff

I use a shutdown utility often. Here's a free one: http://www.systernals.com/ntw2k/freeware/psshutdown.shtml
.

I have that program in my path and a bat file named rebootnow.bat in the path as
well. The bat file is only one line:

psshutdown -t 0 -f -r -l

To shutdown without reboot omit the "-r".

I also use their pskill tool a lot as well for IE and OE which seem to have lives
of their own.

killie.bat: pskill IEXPLORE
killoe.bat: pskill msimn
